Perched high atop Mt. Hollywood, the Griffith Observatory is not just a gateway to the stars, it is a revered Los Angeles icon, rivaling the fame of the nearby Hollywood Sign (also viewable from the Observatory grounds).

While the Observatory building is often busy and the galleries and theaters may be crowded (open Tuesday-Sunday) the outside grounds, terraces, and sidewalks are generally open every day.

There is limited parking near the Observatory. Road closures are likely when traffic becomes congested. Traditionally, a visit by car to this art deco institution involves navigating traffic and battling for parking spaces. However, a shift towards eco-friendly transportation on a bicycle can transform your visit into a novel and enriching experience.

The reliance on cars, especially in a bustling metropolis like Los Angeles, comes with its set of challenges: traffic jams, limited parking near the Observatory, environmental degradation, and restricted access to the park's more secluded spots. Opting for alternative modes of transport not only diminishes your carbon footprint but also enhances your journey, making it more immersive and enjoyable.

Eco-Friendly Alternatives to Discover Griffith Observatory:

Public Transportation: The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) operates daily low cost DASH Observatory/Los Feliz public bus service from the Vermont/Sunset Metro Red Line station to the Observatory  DASH Observatory/Los Feliz service operates daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Park and Walk: If you're up for a bit of exercise, you can trek a mile up Mount Hollywood although it is quite the hike! Walkers are encouraged to take one of the hiking trails which originate near the Greek Theatre or Fern Dell. There is public parking near all trailheads. Check Griffith Park hiking maps for more information..If You can park for free in the area around the Greek Theatre (see map).

Taxis and Shared Ride Services (Uber, Lyft, etc.): Visitors are welcome to arrive via taxi, limo, airport shuttle, and shared ride service. Immediate pickup and drop-off for such vehicles is just past the Observatory horseshoe driveway in front of the lawn. NO such vehicles may park at the Observatory, at any time.
